We aim to reduce our impact on the environment through a series of internal and external measures to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship:
- Energy efficient store designs: skylights to promote natural light, Energy Star rated equipment and appliances, industrial ceiling fans to provide air circulation while reducing reliance on heating and cooling systems
- Zero-volatile organic compound (VOC) paint
- In-store recycling stations
- Locally reclaimed wood for our tables, counters and super-sized communal table. These unique live-edge pieces with a conscience were crafted for us by local specialists “Black’s Farmwood”. You can enjoy their beauty knowing that they are ecologically sourced and reclaimed from Bay Area projects
- All Darn Good Food packaging is 100% compostable and biodegradable PLA (cornstarch), reusable and disposable bamboo plates
- Composting and recycling programs with the goal of diverting 100% of our waste from landfills
- Our “foodistas” are encouraged to utilize public transportation whenever possible towards which we contribute a monthly allowance in excess of regular pay and benefits
- All our deliveries downtown are by messenger on foot or bicycle
